Seems to be pretty Mexican to me.
Everything is absolutely amazing the food takes a bit long but its absolutely worth the wait it's delicious.
Very warm and welcoming. Host was very nice and she was really pleasant. Food is delicious.
Quite odd, sweet and overly spicy non-Mexican food. I had a carnitas super burrito: soupy rice, three small chunks of dry pork, not quite carnitas. Tiny bit of sour cream and guacamole on top, not quite a super burrito. Spicy pineapple salsa: the menu description was just 'salsa.' A normal looking menu for very strange cuisine
Store bought chips, minute rice, & scary looking meat. We barely touched our food. 😔
Prices are different from what it says on the board outside. Service is super slow and food is not that good. You can find MUCH better options within 5 mins walking distance on such a versatile neighborhood.
Great food. OK atmosphere and service. FYI, they don't take checks.
Female was rude on the phone, i'll never go there she can't even talk on the phone.
Best food ever.
Walked in on supposedly busy lunch time on Friday. I read the review and was not great but thought I may give it a try... I opened the door and nobody was there. I asked about the special they posted outside. She seemed irritated and was super rude. I knew I cannot trust the food here. I immediately walked out. Never coming back here. I just don't trust them to handle my food.
This cantina is like being transported to a Mexican Villa. The food is authentic, delicious, and home style. The owner, Connie is always here working away and her passion for her business shows in the food and decor. These are the independently owned small businesses we need to be supporting with our dollars. Enjoy!
The food is plentiful and tasty
The worst Mexican food I've ever had in California!
Vegetarian tacos and the chicken tortilla soup are delicious!
No one is ever in here, is it a front?
Who wouldn't want Connie's as a neighbor? :-) We've had the best burritos mojados, enchiladas and soup here. The service is excellent, and sweetly done. The ambience is intimate -- not too bright, and the decor is eclectic and busy but not overwhelming. Cozy!As others have noted -- this is a no-rush experience. Don't hesitate to ask for things. And, if you have ever dined in a restaurant in Mexico, then you won't be surprised that your host lets you stay as long as you want... To that end, you'll need to ask for your check!
Hands down the best quesadilla I've ever had. I got the super dilla for $9.75. Well worth the price. I highly recommend this place.
Healthy but really tasty food, great value!
WARNING: THIS IS NOT MEXICAN FOOD. Literally the wort burrito I've had in my life (16 years but 7 trips to Mexico to visit family). The meat inside tagged look bbq and should have been called soup in a soggy tortilla bowl. We obviously door not finish our food.
Really good, but slow if you're in a hurry
Delicious food and friendly service. Hidden covered patio out back.
I asked about gluten free options and she, the old gal, was irritated and annoyed at my presence. I walked out. Rude!
Cooking with love from Connie herself.
Its okay but i think they need more staff, when i went it was only one person and im talking one person cooking and attending not so great! I will personally in my experience won't recomend it for lunch. If you want more of a authentic mexican food any taco traco will do it !
This is the best Mexican I have had in a long long time. Connie is amazing. I told her I was allergic to dairy and asked her what to eat and she served me proper!! Also, the sangria is a must!!
I just wish she served ground beef.
BEST Mexican food in Oakland. Authentic flavor, delicious salsa and Connie is amazing. I feel like I'm eating with family.
The food is amazing! Connie is amazing! I love it all!
Connie is here every night. Connie cooks the meal. Its wonderful. Quiet, cozy, comfortable. A rare restaurant in the super-foodie crazed landscape. Just food. Just people. Just right.
Best chicken tortilla soup, but I've only had it to go
Horrible. Understaffed. Waitress acted like she was overwhelmed and didnt want to take my order. So we left.
Connie is great and I feel honored to have such a gem in the neighborhood! The place looks nice with cloth napkins but is one of the most affordable options around, so I think a lot of people miss out when they're looking for a casual dinner. The food is lovingly prepared and the decor is comfortable, if a bit retro (which I appreciate). I am usually vegan, but cheat for the cheese in her vegetarian corn burrito!
Best horchata and roast chicken dishes!
Amazing service, and possibly the best burrito I've ever had
Connie is super nice and food is excellent!!
Love Connie!
Tasty food made by a neighborhood original
I’ve been there twice for lunch. No one home but Connie. We sat on the patio which was cool and comfortable. We ordered quesadillas and they were delicious! Maybe they didn’t look authentic Mexican but they were a welcome change to the same old Mexican lunch. Prices are very reasonable and I definitely will be back for dinner.
Meh, ok. Not the greatest service or food. I've had better and paid less for it not too far from here.
So much flavor. The food is so delicious.
Great food, great prices!
Connie runs the place pretty much on her own, so don't come if you are in a rush. However, if you have the time the food is excellent. Fresh, tasty, and a perfect pairing for cold beer. Make sure you swing by when you get a chance.
Having been going there for years. Connie is a gem.
Food we got was incredibly salty. My wife couldn't eat hers.
Good, fresh and home-made!
Went in today Thanksgiving Eve for some beef enchiladas and let me tell you these had to be the best beef enchiladas I have had from anywhere!!! The flavor was complex and immaculate, and I literally could not save even one bites for later, lol! I am so happy that I gave this gem a try today, as I am very happy with Connie and her ability to cook with style and love:)
Connies burrito is awesome
ambiance was romantic; the food and connie herself were very romantic - in the best sense of romance.
